A couple of valuable take-homes from Chapter 1:
- clearly articulate learning goals and learning objectives on syllabus
- make the course explicitly modular and state learning objectives at the beginning of each module (could be each lecture and discussion)
- include regular checkpoints for reflection on how we are doing with regards to end-goals of course
- try the task before student is ready (I really like this one!)
- create a low stakes graded assignment before an exam
